A site on the right bank of the Ili River, about 170 km from Almaty, beyond Konaev (Kapchagay). Images of Buddhas and mantra inscriptions in Tibetan and Oirat script, about three hundred years old, are carved into the rocks by the water. In spring the steppe is full of poppies, lizards bask on the stones, and people float down the river on kayaks and paddleboards. Not to be confused with the Tamgaly petroglyphs in the Zhambyl region, which are a different place.
